Machi is the Greek word for battle, this is my first solo exhibition of screen-prints on leather, exploring the lines between mythology and family history. Following my grandfathers battle with ill health I drew inspiration from the memory of us watching Jason and the Argonauts together. Jason’s daunting journey, fearless nature and the brave battles of the Argonauts reminded me of my grandfathers courageous battle for health, his tenacious spirit and the beauty of his life. Inspired by his strength I portray the multi faceted layers of life, death and grief executed through a vibrant use of colour and imagery on tactile surfaces.
The launch night was amazing so thank you so much to everyone who came down. I had been so nervous in the weeks leading up to the opening and was so delighted at the amount of support I received. It was such a fantastic night and really interesting to hear first hand people’s thoughts on Machi. The work on display is predominately screen prints on leather and I am also showing screen prints on plastic and examples of my published illustrations. The exhibition is open until October 2nd.
