I facilitated a workshop for Seedhead Arts at Titanic Lockdown where we worked with members of the public to try and find the Colour of Heartbreak. The experience was to be stimulating and cathartic for participants. This project was so much fun to work on. A great space featuring live music and skate competitions. The result looked like this. Many thanks to Sarah Hardy for the beautiful photograph.

I created a new piece for the ReFound Project. I instantly loved the half moon shape of this classic table and the tonal quality of the wood. I created a 5-colour screen print on suede drawing inspiration from the film Jason and the Argonauts, which drapes seductively over the tabletop capturing the shape of the hide. This piece is playful and unique featuring enchanting female iconography along with skulls and skeletons.

Elemental Birds tours in USA

Elemental Birds is a project created by Rockpoolcandy & MyTarPit. ‘ELEMENTALS’ is a very special experiment to see if artists, printmakers and craftspeople can physically embody feelings of peace, harmony and goodwill in their artwork and tangibly affect the environment in which it’s shown. Using a template designed by Inga and Andy I created a digital bird using a screen-printed silk I made with metallic foil and peacock feather embellishment. The project will involve the work of 100 artists and will tour within America, New Zealand and the UK over the next year. This picture is a mock up of my bird. Many thanks to Inga and Andy for involving me in this exciting project.

I had an amazing evening on Friday creating a Secret Urban Garden as part of Culture Night Belfast. The city centre shuts down to traffic and over 20000 people descend on the city for its annual creative showcase event.

We regenerated the North Street exterior of the Old Northern Bank building with the creation of a Secret Garden. We encouraged people to come and chill at the picnic tables and take in the sounds of the garden against the vivid backdrop of flowers, birds and garden ornaments. Members of the public were able to create flowers from art materials with us during the night for inclusion within our urban garden. The beautiful green floodlights created a great atmosphere full of excitement and chill whilst tweeting birds/owls/wind chimes and thunder sounds filled the air.

Many thanks to all at team Culture Night Belfast, my incredible team of volunteers, The Beat Initiative, Colm Campbell, Danielle Wilson and Simon Mills for the beautiful photographs and to all those who took part in the event.

Are you talking to me?

E-mail

I wanted to show a new piece I created for ReFound. This chair was inspired by the iconic Taxi Driver quote 'Are you talking to me?'A selection of artists RE-designed chairs/tables for the QFT inspired by movie quotes.I wanted this chair to have a retro cab feel with the screen-printed maroon leather. Reflecting the iconic colour way of a New York taxi, primary yellow, check and black I wanted to the chair to be as distinct as this iconic movie. Sit on it if you dare. The event will launch on friday the 20th of May with a reception from 6-8pm!

I created a mixed media illustration to exhibit as part of Ards Arts Collective Self Portrait exhibition. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a part time Spaniel which lead to the repeat pattern backdrop. Using a combination of watercolours and digital techniques the final outcome is playful and striking. This exhibition was held in the Sunburst Gallery in Ards Arts Centre for the month of March.

Ars Longa, Vita Brevis (Art is long, life is short)- Screen printed leather hooded cape with 100% silk lining

I have created a screen-printed cape inspired by the work of F.E McWilliams. Pushing the barriers of print into the 3 dimension, I wanted to create a piece that would change shape and form when worn and in motion. The surface design reflects the silhouettes and form and the suggestion of movement that is alive within F.E McWilliams work. Women of Belfast, the expressive works that capture the fragility of life, particularly inspired me. As F.E McWilliams work was so driven by movement, I was inspired by the idea of creating a piece of art which could then become variable when worn, communicating the idea in motion. Many thanks to the wonderful Ronan Peden for stitching the cape so beautifully and too the lovely Michael Toner for his photography.

Another Dimension runs until the 15th May at the F.E McWilliam Gallery.
