Ars Longa, Vita Brevis (Art is long, life is short)- Screen printed leather hooded cape with 100% silk lining
I have created a screen-printed cape inspired by the work of F.E McWilliams. Pushing the barriers of print into the 3 dimension, I wanted to create a piece that would change shape and form when worn and in motion. The surface design reflects the silhouettes and form and the suggestion of movement that is alive within F.E McWilliams work. Women of Belfast, the expressive works that capture the fragility of life, particularly inspired me. As F.E McWilliams work was so driven by movement, I was inspired by the idea of creating a piece of art which could then become variable when worn, communicating the idea in motion. Many thanks to the wonderful Ronan Peden for stitching the cape so beautifully and too the lovely Michael Toner for his photography.
Another Dimension runs until the 15th May at the F.E McWilliam Gallery.
